The installation of the sculpture is a part of tourist project "Search" created by travel guide Yulia Bevzenko. Author of Kyiv Velodrome Mini Sculpture is sculptor Yuriy Bilyavskiy. This moment there are other main symbols of Kiev that are presented in mini-sculptures around Kiev city center - Chicken Kiev, Kiev Chestnut, Kiev Cake, Kiev Tram, Kiev First Car Benz Velo, Kiev Brick Plinfa, Kiev Elephant, Kiev Gramophone, Kiev Golden Pectoral, Fountain of Samson, Kiev Computer, Golden Gates, Kyrylo the Tanner, Serge Lifar Golden Shoe, Sikorsky Helicopter, Kyiv Chess. About Kyiv Velodrome In May 1912 Kiev citizen Ivan Belenko applied to Provincial Board for permission to build a bicycle track and wooden pavilion at Fundukleevskaya Street, 58 on the site of Afanasyevsky Yar. Permission was obtained from city architect Alexander Krivosheev. The grand opening of Kyiv Velodrome took place in 1913 and was dedicated to 300th anniversary of Romanov dynasty. Here was organized rental and repair of bicycles, motorcycles and cars. At the track was the summer theater "Polar Star" with an orchestra. The cycle track belonged to Avangard Sports Society. The first major reconstruction was carried out in 1967 - administrative building was built with rooms for teams, grandstand for 5000 seats and the cycle track was completely renovated. In 1978-80 the track canvas was completely changed - concrete canvas was covered with wood and as a result of the reconstruction the maximum speed of cyclist racers increased to 85 km/h. From 2007 to 2016 Kyiv Velodrome was closed and in 2017 after a complete reconstruction it opened the doors again for everyone who wants to ride a bicycle (after 19:00).
