On 27th of May 2018 in Kiev opened Kiev First Car Mini Sculpture dedicated to the car model Benz Velo which first appeared on streets of Kiev in 1897.

Kiev First Car Mini Sculpture is a bronze scale model of original Benz Velo on marble stand.

The installation of the mini sculpture is a part of the tourist project "Search" created by travel guide Yulia Bevzenko.

Sculptor of Kiev First Car Mini Sculpture is Marco Galenko with cooperation of Sergei Galenko and Galenko Gallery.

This moment there are other main symbols of Kiev that are presented in mini-sculptures around Kiev city center - Chicken Kiev, Kiev Chestnut, Kiev Cake and Kiev First Tram.

Kiev First Car Benz Velo History

In 1894 engineer Karl Benz created a new car type Benz Velo on base of the first model Benz Patent-Motorwagen. Company "Benz & Cie" start mass production of cars in Germany and in three years the first car appeared in Kiev.

Benz Velo car was equipped with single-cylinder engine of 1.05 liters and 1.5 liters. Length of the car is 2250 - 2400 mm, width - 1250 mm, height - 1350 mm and weight - 280 - 425 kg.

Maximum speed of Benz Velo was only 20 km / hour.

Benz Velo participated in the World's First Automobile Race. Le Petit Journal from Paris organized the race that took place in 1894 starting in Paris and ending in Rouen. The winners of Paris - Rouen Race were Panhard & Levassor (Panhard) and Peugeo - both French manufacturers who use Benz internal combustion engines.

Benz Velo placed 5th overall in Le Petit's Race.

In addition to promoting Benz and his automobiles Paris - Rouen Race gave birth to modern Motorsport like Formula One.
