On 27th of May 2018 in Kiev opened Kiev First Tram Mini Sculpture in honor of 125th anniversary of the first electric tram in Kiev which replaced horse and steam trams.

Kiev First Tram Mini Sculpture is a bronze scale smiling model of tram carriage of type VKZ.

The installation of the mini sculpture is a part of tourist project "Search" created by travel guide Yulia Bevzenko.

Sculptor of Kiev First Tram Mini Sculpture is Daria Vovk with cooperation of Sergei Galenko and Galenko Gallery.

This moment there are other main symbols of Kiev that are presented in mini-sculptures around Kiev city center - Chicken Kiev, Kiev Chestnut, Kiev Cake and Kiev First Car Benz Velo.

Kiev First Electric Tram History

The first electric tram network on territory of former Russian Empire was created in Kiev.

On May 3, 1892 the first two tram carriages of type VKZ with 26 seats and electric motors arrived in Kyiv. They were built by Amand Struve at a factory near Moscow according to USA drawings.

Same day tram carriages were tested on Aleksandrovskaya Street on Podol and on May 8, 1892 - on Aleksandrovsky Descent - on the line from Podil to Khreshchatyk street. On June 9, 1892 electric tram was tested by official commission and on June 13, 1982 stared its service for passengers.

In 1893 the profits from electric tram significantly exceeded the costs of servicing it so in 1894 there were electrified lines along Khreshchatyk street, to Lvivska Square and Central Railway Station.
