On 20th of July 2019 in Kyiv Taras Shevchenko Park opened Kyiv Chess Mini Sculpture - bronze mini sculpture of two old men chess players during the tense game of chess.

The installation of the sculpture is a part of tourist project "Search" created by travel guide Yulia Bevzenko.

Author of Kyiv Chess Mini Sculpture is sculptor Olha Kolesnyk.

The mini sculpture impresses with a huge amount of details and subtlety of the work of the sculptor. Old chess players sitting at chess look so alive that it seems to be a moment and they will begin to move figures and talk!

This moment there are other main symbols of Kiev that are presented in mini-sculptures around Kiev city center - Chicken Kiev, Kiev Chestnut, Kiev Cake, Kiev Tram, Kiev First Car Benz Velo, Kiev Brick Plinfa, Kiev Elephant, Kiev Gramophone, Kiev Golden Pectoral, Fountain of Samson, Kiev Computer, Golden Gates, Kyrylo the Tanner, Serge Lifar Golden Shoe, Sikorsky Helicopter.

Kyiv Chess Place in Taras Shevchenko Park

In 60s chess players gathered in Zolotovorotsky Square but then due to the construction of embassies they had to move to Taras Shevchenko Park. Over time in 70s benches and special tables were set up.

Today Taras Shevchenko Park is the center of the chess world of Kiev for the elderly.

Twice a year tournaments are held in the park. One on Chess Day, July 20 and the second - May 9. During tournaments both a blitz game and simultaneous game of chess are held.
