UN Tourism General Secretary visited Ukraine with New UN Projects |

During the historic visit to Kyiv of UN Tourism Secretary-General Sheikha Nasser Al Nowais it was agreed to allocate 500 educational scholarships for Ukrainians in the organization’s online academy, launch the Ukrainian branch of the Safe Destinations Challenge initiative to restore infrastructure and discuss further support for Ukraine’s tourism sector. During the visit the head of the organization visited UNESCO World Heritage sites in Kyiv - St. Sophia Cathedral and Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and presented awards to the winners of the "Best Tourist Villages in the World" competition (communities from Transcarpathia and Lviv regions). Ukraine and UN Tourism Key Areas of Cooperation Educational opportunities and support for veterans Objective: Professional development in the tourism and hospitality industry, job creation and training of specialists for the future restoration of Ukraine’s tourism industry. Key organization: State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine and UN Tourism Safe Destinations Challenge for Ukraine A special category of the initiative has been announced in cooperation with the State Agency for Tourism Development (SATD) and EIT Community Hub Ukraine. Objective: Find innovative solutions for the safety and resilience of tourism disruptions and communications in times of crisis. Tourism for Peace and Security: Traveller Safety Intelligence is a program to find and support innovative solutions that will help make travel safer and tourist destinations more resilient to crises and emergencies. Ukrainian startups, technology teams, entrepreneurs and innovators who create solutions in the field of traveler safety are invited to participate: interactive risk maps, safe routing, early warning systems, real-time notifications and other digital tools. The best solution will receive the opportunity to implement a pilot project with financial support from the program. The amount of funding will be determined according to the needs of the approved pilot. Selected participants will also receive expert mentoring, international visibility, access to a global innovation network and the opportunity to present their solutions to potential partners. The deadline for submitting applications for the Safe Destinations Challenge for Ukraine is September 30, 2026.
