The delegation led by UNESCO General Director Khaled El-Enanн also included Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, Head of the UNESCO Representation in Ukraine. During the sightseeing tour of St Sophia Cathedral, a monument of the XIth century, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, Khaled El-Enany spoke about the peculiarities of preserving cultural heritage in the current time conditions. It was, in particular, about modern systems for monitoring the state of monuments, including seismic sensors that allow recording vibration loads and monitoring the technical condition of historical buildings. Particular attention was paid to the digitization of St. Sophia Cathedral and adjacent monastic buildings and the use of modern technologies for documenting and preserving cultural heritage. The general director of the National Reserve Sofia of Kyiv also emphasized the importance of UNESCO's support and thanked Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, Head of UNESCO Ukraine, for systematic attention to Sofia of Kyiv, support and promotion of international cooperation in the field of cultural heritage protection. An important part of the visit was getting acquainted with the restoration works in St. Sophia Cathedral. The Director General of UNESCO climbed the scaffolding and directly inspected the progress of the restoration of the artistic decoration of the cathedral. During the meeting, they also discussed new approaches to the preservation and popularization of Ukrainian cultural heritage, the development of modern museum practices, the latest research, the importance of international support and cooperation. At the end of the visit, Khaled El-Enany left an entry in the Book of Honored Guests of the National Reserve Sofia of Kyiv. In memory of the visit by Khaled El-Enany, the edition "Saint Sophia of Kyiv 1011-1018" was gifted. The visit of the Director General of UNESCO to St. Sophia Cathedral became an important sign of the international community's attention to Ukrainian cultural heritage and its preservation in wartime conditions.
