On 15.08.2026 in Kyiv, Ukraine it was announced that Switzerland finance the restoration of Kyiv Assumption Cathedral of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra by the UNESCO Project.

Switzerland is allocating over 636 000 Euros to support UNESCO’s project and this funds will be used to prepare project documentation for the full restoration and reconstruction of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra as well as to carry out urgent stabilization and protection works.

This was announced by the Special Representative of the Swiss Federal Council for Ukraine Jacques Gerber during the ceremony of handing over a letter to UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany.

Tetyana Berezhna, Minister of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine, thanked Switzerland for its contribution and stressed the importance of international support in the protection of Ukrainian cultural heritage. She noted the culture is an integral part of national security and an important part of the state’s reconstruction process.

UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany stressed that the organization had mobilized expert resources from the first day after the attack to assess the damage and determine the necessary measures to protect the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.
