The New Ukraine Record registered as Hand Painted Passenger Aircraft Antonov AN-24 |
|
Antonov AN-24 was painted by artist Avtandil Gurgenidze at Sikorsky International Airport Kyiv (IEV, UKKK) in 2015. In 2026 the record was officially confirmed by the National Register of Records of Ukraine in the category "Minimum time for performing manual artistic painting of an Antonov AN-24 passenger aircraft by one artist" in the category "Largest objects". This case is exceptional not only for Ukraine but also for the world. If earlier aircraft were painted collectively or using aerosol technologies then in this project the entire aircraft was created manually - with brushes by one artist as the sole author within two weeks. This project was created over 10 years ago but as of today it is a unique world precedent in the world and it was created in Ukraine. Due to the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 event which took place in Ukraine Antonov AN-24 was repainted in the official dark-grey liver, featuring the contest logo and elements of the Ukrainian necklace by artists Andrey Kovtun and Victoria Laim. So looking at the original painting of artist Avtandil Gurgenidze is not possible anymore. Is his art still under the new paint or it was removed before the second painting - no information available.
