Chernobyl Radar DUGA-1 is the key attraction of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.2 Video Game- the possible key antagonist of the video game stands on the roof of Unfinished 6th Power Unit of Chernobyl NPP talking about Radar DUGA-1 Russian Woodpecker which to the right of him on the horizon and on the background there are Reactor Assembling Building, two Cooling Towers and Chernobyl NPP Cooling Pond

About Chernobyl Radar DUGA-1 Russian Woodpecker

Actually there was three DUGA radars of STEEL YARD (STEEL WORK) NATO Reporting Name and USSR Code "5Н32-West":

- Experimental DUGA Radar close to Mykolayiv, Ukraine (disassembled and scrapped)
- DUGA-1 Radar - near Chernobyl NPP and Chernobyl city, Ukraine (only one preserved in its original form)
- DUGA-2 Radar - close to Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia (disassembled and scrapped)

DUGA Radar calls "Russian Woodpecker" as it transmitted the repetitive tapping noise at 10 Hz repetition rate.

Chernobyl Helicopter Tour with Ukrainian BullyThe need in DUGA Radar Russian Woodpecker service was decreased after 1980 with launches of stationary continental controllable satellites of Program "US-KS" or "OKO-S" (seven satellites were launched between 1975 and 1997 which currently retired).

In 2015 program "OKO-S" was replaced with new "EKS Kupol" and four satellites Kosmos type that identify ballistic missile launches and work as early warning radars (five more satellites in plans to be launched).

The great possibility to look the real DUGA-1 Radar in bird's eye view is Chernobyl helicopter tour for about 1 hour and 45 minutes starting from Kyiv, Ukraine.

Also there are three more preserved objects of Cold War heritage in Ukraine that complements the visit of DUGA-1 Radar:

- Museum of Strategic Missiles Forces
- State Aviation Museum
- Poltava Museum of Long-Range and Strategic Aviation

Welcome to Kyiv and Ukraine!
