Museum of aviation pioneer Alexander Mozhaysky won a grant of European Union


On 22nd of February 2015 within framework of European Union "Support to regional development policy in Ukraine" Museum of Aviation Pioneer Alexander Mozhaysky won a grant of 300 000 Euro for its reconstruction.

Purpose of the project which is designed for 2 years is to create favorable conditions for development of economic and tourism potential of Vinnytsia region by reviving tourist zones.

By this project will be reconstructed Palace of Groholsky-Mozhaysky that is in Voronovitsa around 20 km from Vinnitsya. Assumed full restoration of the facade of palace, partial restoration of historic park with old trees and reconstruction of State Museum of Cosmonautics of Ukraine functioning since 1971.

In Museum of Aviation Pioneer Alexander Mozhaysky will create a tour desk, museum website, make the tourist sight attractive for tourists from other regions and countries. Also provided training activities: seminars and lectures for all concerned to cultural heritage of Ukraine.

About Museum of Aviation Pioneer Alexander Mozhaysky

Architectural and park complex in Voronovitsa village near Vinnitsa is a monument of XVIII century and at the same time a museum of technical achievements of XX century. Three-storey palace built in the style of early classicism.

In 1847 when the estate belonged to Princess Carolyne zu Sayn-Wittgenstein here stayed for several months Hungarian composer Franz Liszt writing in Voronovitsa piano cycle "Glanes de Woronince" which was based on melodies heard by Franz Liszt in Vinnitsya region.

In 1867 Nicolas Mozahaysky bought the estate and after his death the estate settled his brother - the future inventor of glider - Alexander Mozhaysky.

Admiral Alexander Mozhaysky who lived in the estate in 1869-1876 conducted research and experiments in the field of aeronautics. Here he made the first model glider which was successfully tested in a neighboring village Potush. In 1882 in St. Petersburg aircraft of Alexander Mozhaysky design with steam engines became the world's first aircraft heavier than air off the ground.

In memory of Alexander Mozhaysky stay in Voronovitsa in 1971 was founded Museum of Aviation Pioneer Alexander Mozhaysky. The basis of the museum are documents, photographs, books, things related to the development of aviation and space exploration as well as that belonged to Alexander Mozhaysky.
