History of Sorochinsky Fair Fairs in Ukraine has a long history. Already in the 40-s XIX century on the territory of Ukraine was 12 000 trade fairs, including 178 large and medium-sized. Among them was a little-known Sorochinsky Fair. The village of Velyki Sorochyntsi and Sorochinsky Fair glorified throughout the world the great Ukrainian and Russian writer Nikolai Gogol. In his first work in the series of stories "Evenings on a Farm near Dikanka" (1831-1832) which brought a lot of popularity Nikolai Gogol writer showed great love to Ukraine and deep knowledge of the treasures of Ukrainian folk art and originality of life of its people. In the story " Sorochynsky Fair" Nikolai Gogol recreated the poetry of the people's life, realistically described different representatives of the Ukrainian people, artistically decorated it with sense of good humor. Sorochynsky Fair continued to exist until the 20th century. And then was closed for many years. But already in 1966 Sorochinsky Fair starts to revive. Many people went to Velyki Sorochyntsi to purchase a variety of deficient goods at that time. They did not stop even that was a fairground unequipped field without any conditions for the participants and guests. With the emergence of independent Ukraine Sorochinsky Fair was held in a small scale but soon acquired over the years get all-Ukrainian fame. In 2012 Sorochinsky Fair was attended by over a million people and introduced more than 1500 enterprises, entrepreneurs and craftsmen from Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, Belarus, Germany and Poland.
