After 1st of April 2015 visitors of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra (UNESCO World Heritage) will be able to climb the steps of Great Bell Tower and enjoy a bird's eye magnificent panorama of Kiev.

Repair and restoration of one of the most recognizable and majestic monuments of architectural ensemble of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra began in 2010. The project of restoration developed by institute "UkrNDIproektrestavratsiya" and continued over last five years.

In 2010 copper roof of Great Bell Tower had numerous holes and cracks through which precipitation fell in the structure and this led to destruction of bricklaying of eaves.

There were a priority emergency response work - strengthening of masonry of columns and cornices, strengthening and consolidation of zones of supporting metal beams of third tier of the bell tower, reinforce the structure of the dome with restoration of lost vertical and horizontal mounting elements and replacing copper roof.

In 2011-2012 there was restoration work on facades of the third and fourth tiers of Great Bell Tower. During the restoration works were examined and restored ceramic figurine "Angel" which survived without significant damage. Located beneath the dome figure is difficult to obtain even for visual inspection. Overall work on the facades of Great Bell Tower completed in May 2012.

In 2013 the repair and restoration work carried out in interior of Great Bell Tower. It was made restoration of bell clock and made full range of decorating of stairwell in the central hall of first tier, main hall, side chambers and the second tier.

In 2014 conducted comprehensive electrical measurements of lightning protection system and performed works of electric lighting and fire alarms.

On August 19, 2014 at the third tier of Great Bell Tower of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was raised and set bell "All Saints" made at the expense of investors.

Done complex of repair and restoration works in its complexity and scope was first time in history of monument and restoration of Great Lavra Bell Tower is due to state budget. Completion (second stage) is planned for this year if will be funding.

About Great Bell Tower of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra

Great Bell Tower of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra was built in 1731-1745 by architect and engineer Johann Gottfried Shedel. It is a four-octagonal tower of 96.5 meters height.
