Fountain on Viche Square in Ivano-Frankivsk opened in early 1950 and it was seven-sided pond in the center of which stands a bowl with ears of wheat. Since this time the fountain changed three times.

The first time - in the late 1960s when near Fountain on Viche Square was built high-rise building of telephone and telegraph station. The new fountain changed to rectangular pool which was decorated by forged lattice with deer silhouettes. However this variant of the fountain was considered unacceptable and architects need to improve it.

So architects made decision to build fountain with two bowls at different levels decorated with forged sculptures of sea creatures. Grand opening of Fountain on Viche Square scheduled for Autumn 1979 but due to various difficulties fountain was opened only on 9th of May 1981.

It was so popular with tourists that in 1983 Ministry of Communications of USSR issued a separate postcards called " Fountain on Viche Square". It was published more than 100 000 copies of postcards so all citizens of USSR was invited by that way to visit Ivano-Frankivsk.

At the beginning of XXI century began construction of a new version of Fountain on Viche Square. The project developed by local architect Orestes Kos. The new version of the fountain cost to Ivano-Frankivsk city budget almost 3 million UAH (around 375 000 US dollars in time when 1 US dollar cost 8 UAH).

When the fountain was finished at 90% hit a frost and burst pipes which had already managed to wall up. Next spring had to start all over again. On 21st of August 2004 in Ivano-Frankivsk began to work Fountain on Viche Square which any tourists could come under the central large bowl and stay dry.
