On 14th - 16th of June 2013 in Sevastopol, Crimea in Ukraine will take place Sevastopol Military Tattoo Festival 2013.

Sevastopol International Festival of Military Bands - Sevastopol Military Tattoo Festival 2013 only in Ukraine and the largest on the Black Sea festival of military orchestras. It takes place in Sevastopol for the fourth time and gathers the best military musicians from around the world.

Historical background

The history of military orchestras festivals (in European culture known as military tattoo) began in the XVII century when British troops were fighting in Belgium and Holland. Every night at exactly at 21:30 garrison command was sending drummers in the city to bring the soldiers back to the barracks. From 21:30 until 22:00 in the streets echoed the sound of drums that received the name "Doe den tap toe" which translated as "It's time to close the taps".

Thus drummers gave a signal to the holders of hotels and inns that they needed to stop pouring beer to soldiers. Over time an evening music of drummers turned into a show. In the 1800's to entertain the audience garrison towns and cities in the summer months have marched through the streets of entire orchestras and in the period between the First and Second World Wars own military bands were formed in many towns in Europe.
