Zhovkva Wooden Church of Holy Trinity opened after Six Years of Restoration |
|
This is one of the most valuable wooden churches of Ukraine and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The wooden church was built in 1720 and has preserved the unique Baroque iconostasis of the Zhovkva Art School. Specialists renewed the roof, strengthened the structures, restored the wall paintings and the historical iconostasis. About 12 million UAH (around 230 000 Euro) were allocated for these works. The project of the restoration of the Wooden Church of Holy Trinity was implemented by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine, the Lviv National Art Gallery named after B.G. Voznytsky, the Polish Institute "Polonika" and Ukrainian restorers. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the preservation of this unique wooden church. Just remind you that in 2013 eight wooden churches of Ukraine became a part of UNESCO World Heritage list. Welcome to visit Zhovkva and the Wooden Church of Holy Trinity!
