Exhibition Uniforms and Weapons of World War II opened in Poltava Aviation Museum |

This day went down in world history as D-Day - 06.06.1944. On the occasion of this important historical date the branch of the National Military History Museum of Ukraine - the Museum of Heavy Bomber Aviation held a grand opening of a new temporary exhibition dedicated to the military formations of the Second World War. The main emphasis of the exhibition is on the uniforms and equipment of the Allied troops, in particular the legendary 101st US Airborne Division which played a key role in the opening of the Second Front in Normandy. Visitors of the aviation museum have a unique opportunity to examine in detail authentic elements of military history: - Uniforms of US paratroopers: full sets of field equipment of soldiers of the 101st Division are presented including characteristic jackets, unloading systems and helmets - Weapons and technical equipment: the exhibition displays samples of small arms, in particular machine guns and rifles used on the battlefields of Europe. In particular the German assault rifle StG 44 (Sturmgewehr 44) designed by Hugo Schmeisser, the only German machine gun of the Second World War - MG 42 (Maschinengewehr 42) and other small arms.
During the presentation the importance of preserving the historical memory of the joint struggle of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition was emphasized. The new exhibition has already aroused great interest among historians, reenactors and tourists.
