New Mini Sculpture dedicated to Chess Grandmaster Judit Polgar set in Uzhhorod |
Judit Polgar achieved the title of Grandmaster at the age of 15 years, 4 months and 28 days. She became the youngest Grandmaster at that time surpassing the achievements of Robert Fischer (1958) by one month. Since 1989 Judit Polgar has topped the chess player rating list. In July and October 2005 she had her maximum rating of 2735, both times ranking eighth in the world among men. This is the highest chess rating among women and Judit Polgar became the only chess player to achieve the super grandmaster rating. After the end of the 41st Chess Olympiad in Norway in 2014, Judit Polgar announced the end of her career. On December 10, 2018, Judit Polgar became Honorary Vice-President of FIDE. The mini sculpture is a marble board on a pedestal divided into a chessboard and a backgammon field. On the chessboard stands a chess piece - the Queen, in honor of Judit. On the backgammon part there are a pair of cubes (the Ukrainian Backgammon Federation is located in Uzhgorod). In the middle in a meditation pose sits a figure of Judit. The author of the work was sculptor Roman Murnyk and the patron was the president of the Backgammon Federation of Ukraine Arsen Melkumyan. The mini sculpture was installed on Laborets Square in Uzhhorod in honor of the Day of the City of Uzhgorod! Welcome to Uzhhorod!
