Ukraine Industrial Tourism was presented at TICCIH Congress Kiruna 2025 |
Kryvyi Rih tour guide Volodymyr Kazakov who is the best Ukraine tour guide of 2021 by Ukraine Tourism Awards 2021 at the congress made a presentation on topic "Thematic Routes of Ukraine's Mining Heritage As the Methodology of Its Studying and Preservation". Ukraine Industrial Routes were planned by mineral deposit locations and their industrial connections: - Iron Route Viktoriia Patsiuk concentrated on the facts of industrial heritage preservation during and after the war with the topic "Industrial Heritage at the Times of War: Challenges and Opportunities for Future Generation in Ukraine". Her propositions are in the field of full and partial reconstruction, revitalization, memorialization for the further use of destroyed or damaged industrial facilities.
The main emphasis was placed on the fact that the war led to the destruction of more than 400 industrial facilities and a huge amount of transport infrastructure. The remains of industrial culture are being erased which have not only technological but also architectural, social, scientific and historical value. Ukraine has high hopes for the support of the TICCIH organization in the study of Ukraine's war-damaged industrial heritage and in providing international resonance to this issue. While making their reports Volodymyr Kazakov and Viktoriia Patsiuk revealed the potential of Ukraine Industrial Heritage and, of course, their hometown of Kryvyi Rih - the capital of industrial tourism in Ukraine. Kryvyi Rih promotional souvenirs provided by Kryvyi Rih City Development Institute flew with the participants of the congress to different corners of the world. TICCIH is an abbreviation of International Committee for the Conservation of the Industrial Heritage - the world organization with goals to promote international cooperation in preserving, conserving, investigating, documenting, researching, interpreting and advancing education of the industrial heritage. This wide field includes the material remains of industry - industrial sites, buildings and architecture, plant, machinery and equipment - as well as housing, industrial settlements, industrial landscapes, products and processes and documentation of the industrial society. TICClH is recognized by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) as a designated consultant in all matters related to the study and preservation of industrial heritage. lCOMOS is the global non-governmental organization dedicated to conservation of the world’s historic monuments and sites. About Kiruna and Kryvyi Rih Kiruna is the northernmost city in Sweden located beyond the Arctic Circle. Ore mining is changing the face of the city - due to the threat of subsidence the city is gradually moving to a new territory. Literally a week before the congress an exclusive event took place in the city which brought together tourists from different parts of the world - the largest church in the northern part of Sweden was moved. The same fate awaits most of the city's historical buildings. Both cities Kiruna and Kryvyi Rih are unique locations for industrial tourism combining the history of mining, identical industrial landscapes with dump and collapse complexes which make adjustments to the current and future development of the cities.
