On 23.08.2025 in Kyiv Retro Tram M2-M 1892 is back after complete restoration for Podil tram tours along the route "Kontraktova Square - Taras Shevchenko Square" and in the opposite direction.
At the same time the retro-tram can be used for holiday trips on request of tourists and guests of Ukrainian capital.
Restoration work was carried out by specialists of Darnytskyi Depot - the running gear was restored, the tram trolley was repaired and some work on the interior decoration was carried out.
Kyiv Retro Tram M2-M 1892 is stylized as Kyiv trams of the late XIXth - early XXth centuries with an authentic appearance and wooden decoration. It was created to preserve the historical memory of the development of electric public transport in Kyiv.
The retro-tram reminds of the opening of the first electric tram route in Kyiv which ran from Podil to Oleksandrivskyi Uzviz (now Volodymyrskyi Uzviz). The length of this route was approximately 1.5 km. The first electric tram in Kyiv was launched on June 13, 1892.
We also remind that in Kyiv there is a unique Museum of Electric Transport - the heart of the history of “Kyivpastrans”: 160 exclusive exhibits, photo archives about the development of the transport industry not only in Kyiv but also in all of Europe.
Who actually invented and launched the first electric transport in Ukrainian capital and why the horse-drawn carriage and steam tram was replaced - this and much more will be told with great inspiration by the wonderful museum tour guide Lyubov Oliynyk.
Welcome to Kyiv!
