Homin Choir will record all choral music of Mykola Leontovych to 150 Anniversary |
The project is being implemented within the framework of Ukrainian Live strategy for the development of Ukrainian classics by the Lviv Organ Hall, Homin Choir and Radio Kultura. The idea was born after the group received the collection "Leontovych. Choral Works" (2019, “Musical Ukraine” Publishing House) as a gift from Mykola Leontovych All-Ukrainian Choral Society and its chairman Oleksandr Tarasenko. This is the most complete collection of choral works by Mykola Leontovych in the history of sheet music printing in Ukraine: 233 compositions including arrangements of folk songs, spiritual and original works and choruses from the opera "Mermaid's Easter". Lviv Organ Hall will host the first concert in the series "Leontovych. Homin Choir" during which the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom will be performed. Mykola Leontovych is well known in the world primarily thanks to “Shchedryk” but his work is much broader. This project will open up a full panorama of his work to the modern listener. It was Mykola Leontovych who raised and developed the genre of choral arrangements of folk songs to its culminating height. Mykola Leontovych’s choral arrangements are not just harmonizations, they are rethinking, improving high skill and exceptional creativity in working with folklore material. His work is a national treasure that is still being revealed and captivates generations of listeners and performers. Everyone all over the world who wants to touch the history of Ukrainian music could listen to the recording of the concert in Ukrainian Live mobile application. Further concerts of the project will also be performed by the partner of Lviv Organ Hall - Radio Kultura. The concert hall has been cooperating with Public Broadcaster for several seasons and recordings from premieres in Lviv Organ Hall are replenished by Ukrainian Radio and are broadcast on the air. Homin Choir is embarking on a musical journey that will present a complete collection of the composer’s works by 2027. You could join and follow every step of this journey on the pages of Lviv Organ Hall and Homin Choir on social networks. Organizers
