Antonov Test Pilot Oleksandr Halunenko received FAI Gold Medal |

Update! On 03.11.2025 in Bucha, Ukraine Antonov Test Pilot Oleksandr Halunenko received the FAI Gold Air Medal which was brought by Yuriy Yakovlyev from Finland. Oleksandr Halunenko was honoured with the FAI Gold Air Medal for his exceptional achievement of 263 world records, his leadership as President of the Federation of Aeronautical Sports of Ukraine, his contributions as General Designer and his outstanding test flights of legendary Antonov aircrafts. During today’s first session of the FAI General Conference, Yuriy Yakovlyev, President of the Federation of Aeronautical Sports of Ukraine, accepted the award on his behalf. The FAI Gold Air Medal was established in 1924 and first awarded in 1925. It is one of FAI’s two highest distinctions reserved for those who have contributed greatly to the development of aeronautics through their achievements, work, initiative or lifelong devotion to the cause of aviation.
Oleksandr Halunenko leads flight tests of Antonov aircrafts like AN-28, AN-72, AN-32, AN-124 Ruslan, AN-225 Mriya and AN-70. He set 263 world aviation records: on the AN-72 - 8, on AN-124 Ruslan - 21, on AN-225 Mriya - 234 (in one flight 110 world records, in the second - 124). For setting 110 world aviation records in one flight on AN-225 Mriya his name was entered in the Guinness Book of Records in 1991. Oleksandr Halunenko was awarded the title of "Hero of Ukraine" by the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma in 1999 for personal courage and heroism shown during flight tests of new aviation equipment.
