On 26.04.2021 in front of Administrative Building №1 of Chernobyl NPP will be open Sculpture to Liquidator Alexander Lelechenko who was one of the first liquidators of Chernobyl accident.

Deputy Head of Electrical Department of Chornobyl NPP Alexander Lelechenko on April 26, 1986 when the eighth turbine stopped at night during the 4th Power Unit explosion personally pumped flammable substances from the seventh and eighth turbines.

He cut off the supply of hydrogen to emergency generators and tried to put voltage on the feed pumps. Alexander Lelechenko did it manually because all the systems failed and prevented the fire from spreading to undamaged power units of Chernobyl NPP.

Alexander Lelechenko was taken to Medical Unit №126 in Prypyat but after receiving medical treatment return back to Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. He received a dose of 2500 Roentgen - dose incompatible with life.

Sculpture to Liquidator Alexander Lelechenko is the personification of all liquidators and employees of Chernobyl NPP who gave their lives or health to save others.
