New Kyiv mural location is Aviakonstruktora Antonova Street, 7. About Pilot Petro Franko Petro Franko completed pilot training in 1916 at the flight school in Railovac near Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In November 1918 Krasne village (46 km from Lviv) became the location of future air regiment and began flights to test equipment and train pilots. On December 6, 1918, Dmytro Vitovsky State Secretary for Military Affairs of Western Ukrainian People's Republic signed an order to form Airforce Regiment of Galician Army. It had 9 aircrafts - 4 reconnaissance aircrafts Albatross J.I, Hansa-Brandenburg, three fighters Newport and two aircrafts Lloyd. Pilot Petro Franko became the division commander. From 1918 Petro Franko led the pilot's training in Initial Command of Ukrainian Galician Army until 1920. During his service as the division commander Petro Franko still made 40 - 50 combat flights. On January 4, 1919 conducting air reconnaissance north of Lviv on 2-seater Albatros J.I Petro Franko was shot down by an enemy aircraft. He and his co-pilot Roman Kavuta (Klatva) survived but were taken prisoner by Poles. The air regiment created by Petro Franko shot down 16 Polish airplanes and for his services in the organization of aviation Simon Petliura awarded him the military rank of colonel. Welcome to Kyiv!
