On 12.01.2020 in Chernivtsi will take place Malanka Festival - costume carnival with fabulous procession which presents Ukrainian, Bessarabian, Hutsul, Moldavian, Romanian Malanka traditions.

The venue of the festivalk is Philharmonic Square in Chernivtsi and start time - 12:00.

For tourists and guests of Chernivtsi are waiting:

- carnival procession of all participants of the festival
- performances on Main Stage of amateur, folk groups presenting traditional malanka rite
- Carnival mask creating workshops
- sweets from pastry chefs and cooks
- food court - fun for kids

12:00 - Grand opening of Folklore and Ethnographic Festival Malanka

12:30 - Start of the carnival walking by route:

Philharmonic Square - Zankovetskoi St - Universytetska St - Teatralna Square - Kotlyarevskoho St - Soborna Square - Ivana Franka St - Tsentralna Square

13:30 - Presentation of Ukrainian Malanka

13:30 - 14:30 - Children entertainment (master classes, games)

13:40 - Start of performances of music bands on stage

15:00 - Workshop for making of carnival masks using papier mache technique at Chernіvetsky Excursion Bureau, Poshtova St, 6, entry from Chaikovskoho St)

18:30 - Completion of the competition program. Announcement of winners for the best malanka and rewarding of participants

About Malanka

Original name of the event is "Pereberia" which means changing clothes. The main participants are Malanka, Cossack, Buk Shandr, Ukrainian girl, bears, gypsies, grandfather and grandmother - disguised men and boys. Each year new characters appears that often reflected the most important events of the past year and shows them in new vision. Celebration in this format has been going on for more than 100 years.

Every year thousands of people from many parts of Ukraine and from far abroad come to Chernivtsi to look at unique costume carnival with fabulous procession. Certainly everyone should visit this holiday of national traditions at least once in a lifetime.
