On 16.06 - 17.06.2018 in Mukachevo Castle will take place Historical Reconstruction of Ilona Zrinyi and Emeric Thokoly Wedding with theatrical show and fair.

Historic sources tells that the wedding of 39-year-old Ilona Zrinyi and 25-year-old Emeric Thokoly took place on June 15, 1682. For 8 days guests ate 10 fatted bulls, 36 calves, 20 pigs, 80 sheep, four deer, 10 roe deer, 6 wild boars, 2 loney, 8 quintals of fish, 50 quintals of honey and sugar. Drunk - 130 barrels of red and 150 barrels of white wine, 40 barrels of beer and 25 small barrels of Polish vodka.

Historical Facts of Ilona Zrinyi and Emeric Thokoly

Hungarian liberation movement of 1685-1688 was led by Ilona Zrinyi and Emeric Thokoly.

They are famous for three-year defense (1685-1688) of Mukachevo Palanok Castle from Habsburg Austrian troops.

In November 1685 Austrian general Sigbert Heister captured Uzhgorod Castle and approached to Mukachevo Palanok Castle - Ilona Zrinyi personally headed its garrison in 2500 fighters.

On 10th of March 1686 to the castle came fresh Austrian forces led by general Aeneas de Caprara. Seven months the castle was under siege but the garrison repulsed all attacks of the enemy. Ilona Zrinyi raised the fighting spirit of the soldiers often appearing on the bastions along with the ten-year-old son Francis (in the future Francis II Rakoczi). Polish King John III Sobieski called Ilona Zrinyi - the Greatest Woman in Europe.

At the end of 1686 Austrian forces retreated but in 1687 a new siege began. On 17th of January 1688 deceived by a false letter of her husband which was fabricated by manager of princely estates Ilona Zrini signed an act of surrender.

The rest of life Ilona Zrinyi and Emeric Thokoly were held in exile in Turkey.
