The task of developers of the aircraft was to create an airplane for transportation of USSR Buran Spacecraft. Dimensions of Antonov AN-225 - length is 84 meters and height is 18 meters. She also set record for wingspan length of existing aircrafts - 88 meters. Only Hughes H-4 "Hercules" which rose to the air only once and is now a museum exhibit has larger wingspan of 98 meters. Fuel consumption by aircraft is 15.9 tons per hour in cruise flight and in case of Jet fuel cost (TC-1) of 900 USD per ton - total cost of fuel per hour is around 15 000 USD. To replenish the tank of such a large aircraft of 365 tons is needed 60 five-ton refuelers and up to one and a half days of time.
