On 23th - 27th of August 2017 in Odessa will take place Black Sea Cup - international sailing regatta of cruising yachts witch history began in 1973.

Grand opening of regatta Black Sea Cup will start on August 24, 2017 at 10:00 on the territory of Odessa Black Sea Yacht Club.

Competitions will be held for five days in northwestern part of Black Sea and water area of Odessa Gulf. Participants expect short races on windward-leeward distances. In the regatta will take part cruising and racing yachts with a valid test certificate ORC Club, ORC In.

For the first time in the history of regatta Black Sea Cup the newest automated system for sailing competitions Sail Racers will be applied. Thanks to the innovation the race can be watched online from anywhere in the world.

In the all-Ukrainian open regatta of cruising yachts Black Sea Cup the leading crews of cruising yachts from Kiev, Dnipro, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Yuzhniy, Belgorod-Dnistrovsky, Sergeevka, Reni, Chernomorsk and Odessa will compete. In the races will be attended by masters of sports, experienced captains and crews.

Black Sea Cup History

History of regattas Black Sea Cup begins in 1973. On initiative of Odessa yachtsmen for the first time All-Soviet Union Black Sea Cup competition was organized and held.

The regatta was immediately conceived as an annual. For cruising yachts regattas in different years took place via yacht clubs and ports of Odessa, Mykolaiv, Evpatoria, Sevastopol, Feodosia, Kerch, Novorossiysk, Tuapse, Sochi, Sukhumi and Poti and crossed Zmiinyi Island (Snake Island). The total length of distances exceeded a thousand nautical miles.

Small yachts raced on traditional Odessa one hundred mile races with total length up to five hundred nautical miles.

In some years the regatta joined a record number of participants - more than a thousand yachtsmen took part in the race as well as number of yachts that took part in the competition exceeded a hundred.

In this format the cup was held until 1988.

From 1989 to 1995 Black Sea Cup was held in the north-western part of Black Sea. Main distances of the competition were traditional Odessa 100-mile races on the route Odessa - Berezan Island - Dnistrove - Tsargorodske Mouth - Odessa and races around Zmiinyi Island (Snake Island).

Competitions remained traditional and attracted participants from Mykolaiv, Kherson, Nikopol, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipro, Kiev, Sevastopol and Mariupol. Competitions were held with the support of Black Sea Shipping Company.

This regatta was revived in 2008 and from this moment it is held annually.
