NSC Novarka will be slided over 4th Chernobyl reactor on 14th of November 2016 |
Construction of NSC Novarka - a new safe confinement in Chernobyl is in the final stage of the second phase of transformation of Object Shelter into an ecologically safe system. New Safe Confinement Novarka is the largest movable structure in the world which is equipped with unique technologies and systems. Height of NSC Novarka is 110 meters, length - 150 meters, width - 260 meters and a weight of over 31000 tonnes. NSC Novarka is mounted at a distance of 250 meters from the sarcophagus of 4th Chernobyl reactor and this path it should pass to cover Object Shelter. NSC Novarka movement speed is 10 meters per hour so whole process will take around 25 hours until complete. Final sliding of NSC Novarka over Object Shelter of Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant demonstrate successful implementation of large-scale project of radiation safety which brought together 28 countries and began transformation of Chernobyl Zone to an ecologically safe area. In November 2017 NSC Novarka is scheduled to be in operation and begin work on dismantling of unstable structures of 4th Chernobyl reactor. The project assumes operation of NSC Novarka for 100 years.
