About Soviet Military Radar Station Pamir

Soviet Military Radar Station Pamir on the top of Tomnatic Mountain is a radar station whose radars monitored European sky in 1950-1995.

In domes of the radar station were placed antennas of centimeter range. In others domes were altimeters of decimetre range in each of which antenna of circular survey "P-35" was raised. This radar station was designed to accurately determine the elevation angle and height of the potential air targets.

In the largest of domes there is radar antenna "P-14 Lena" - an impedance range radar of long-range detection which was the first Soviet high-power radar of meter range.

"P-14 Lena" is the only antenna that has survived on Soviet Military Radar Station Pamir. Antena "P-14 Lena" is a parabolic mirror measuring 32 x 11 meters. It was intended for long-range detection and measurement of range and azimuth air targets.

In 2017 six painters from Lviv painted one of the domes of Soviet Military Radar Station Pamir so now it looks like Pysanka (Easter Egg) of record size.
