Church of Saviour at Berestove was closed for long time and in 2001 there was an attempt to restore it for grants but only partially managed to do something. There is still building materials inside of the church and the main problem is wet of foundation. Valuable frescos of the church in order to preserve them were moved to one of the buildings of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The restoration project of Church of Saviour at Berestove has been developed, permission has been obtained for beginning of restoration works, agreements have been signed with Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, philanthropist Vyacheslav Moskalevsky, general contractor and UNESCO World Heritage Committee has been informed. At the first stage the philanthropist plans to give 15 million UAH and in the future - for 2 years - the full budget will be around 50 million UAH for restoration of Church of Saviour at Berestove and the area around it. Church of Saviour at Berestove is one of the most historical sights and attractions of Kiev that was built in the same period of time and stands in line with Church of Tithes and Saint Sophia's Cathedral. The church was built by Vladimir Monomakh and it was family burial vault and also here was buried Prince Yuri Dolgorukiy - the founder of Moscow.
